October marks the beginning of a lot of AFK time for me, though it’s sort of a welcome relief from too-much-K in the last few weeks. I usually write posts ahead and then schedule them for later, but I wanted to note that I won’t be around to moderate comments–or fix anything that I’ve messed up–for the first part of the month. Instead, I’ll be busy at Sirens, one of the best parts of the year, where fabulous people come together to discuss women in fantasy in a conference/retreat setting. In the meantime, I’ve got a bunch of interesting links, news, and so on queued up, and a folder in my email with dozens more. It’s been a good season for handy links, and I can’t wait to share them.
SCBWI Spark Award – Recognizing Self-Published Books
There are lots of awards for children’s books. Some are honors; some come with dollars attached; some are for aspiring authors, or for authors who could use some additional funds to finish a book. The new SCBWI Spark Award expands on the current offerings to recognize “excellence in a children’s book published through a non-traditional publishing route.” Self-publishers, this one’s for you! Follow the link for more information.
